Finally some visuals for Mykki’s call to arms. She’s channeling Queen of the Damned in the forest of the abject. I appreciate Blanco’s storytelling and voice, it really is mental and psychotic in a lot of ways. The gravity of her poetic landings make my chest sink. “Nas gave me a perm / he said you got the hidden gift kid / lead them, they’ll learn”

I was asked to photograph Ships In The Night in Oakland this past weekend, one of many fun shoots recently.
It was a hesitant acceptance that turned into an empowering experience. I hadn’t been in about 3 months, my last time there being the scene of some recent trauma. What could have been a triggering situation turned out to be a fantastic night of dancing, positive company, frolicking about with my camera and capturing one of the most vibrant communities in the East Bay.
